Junior Pro Cycling April 23, 2008: Norristown, PA… Seven riders, including a pair of talented brothers from Fairfax Station, Virginia, have qualified to ride in the Junior Pro Cycling Tour Grand Prix, a special event to be held in conjunction with Commerce Bank Philadelphia International Championship on June 8.

Siblings Justin and Stephan Koelbl each earned coveted Junior PCT Grand Prix start spots, after posting top seven finishes at the first of four qualifying races, the Daniel Harwi Memorial Lower Providence Spring Classic Criterium, held in Lower Providence on April 20.

Junior Pro Cycling April 23, 2008: Norristown, PA… Seven riders, including a pair of talented brothers from Fairfax Station, Virginia, have qualified to ride in the Junior Pro Cycling Tour Grand Prix, a special event to be held in conjunction with Commerce Bank Philadelphia International Championship on June 8.

Siblings Justin and Stephan Koelbl each earned coveted Junior PCT Grand Prix start spots, after posting top seven finishes at the first of four qualifying races, the Daniel Harwi Memorial Lower Providence Spring Classic Criterium, held in Lower Providence on April 20.

Justin and Stephan were first exposed to cycling during a family trips to Toulouse, France, and have since honed their skills with frequent outings to the famed Lehigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.

Also earning start spots at the first qualifying event were three Pennsylvanians, Matthew Baraneski, of Perkasie, Juan Carmona of Breinigsville, and Wyatt Stoup of West Chester.

Ben Salibra of Fayetteville, New York, and Edinburgh, England’s Patrick Galabraith completed the round No. 1 qualifiers list.

The Junior PCT Grand Prix race will be held immediately after the finish of the women’s race, and approximately on lap 6 of the pro men’s event. The juniors will contest 3.5 laps totaling 5 miles, with route running between Eakins Oval and Logan Circle and utilizing the Philadelphia International Championship start-finish area.

The junior event is a points race format, where sprint points are awarded on every full lap. The rider with the most accumulated points after three sprints will be declared the winner. There will be a total of three sprint spots, with points of 7, 5, 3, 2 and 1 being awarded to the top five. The final top 10 riders will earn a share of the $500 prize purse.
